Captain Marvel
Screen Graphics | VFX | Concept Design
Working on Captain Marvel allowed us to step outside of human creations and visualize two different sets of alien technology. While the film is set in the 90s on Earth, the Kree and Skrull advancements reflect thousands if not millions of years of innovation.
Each set of technology had the same base element - a futuristic organic matter based off of real-world ferrofluid. From this base, we were able to branch into two distinct aesthetics: the organic, layered technology of the Skrull, and the rigid, militaristic technology of the Kree.

Skrull Drop-Ship HUD
The Skrull escape pod HUD consisted of various translucent and semi-flexible lenses with content controlled by the hand motions of the pilot. Maintaining the throughline of organic shapes in Skrull technology, insect exoskeletons were used as inspiration for the final design.
Mind Fracking
Mind fracking stations are used by the Skrull to extract information from unwilling participants. We leaned heavily on the Skrull's advanced technology to visualize the mind as a kaleidoscope of neural energy and data. We utilized light-based organic concepts such as refraction, reflection, and diffraction to evoke a dream-like atmosphere.

Kree Technology
Kree technology found its roots in the Skrull ships stolen at the start of the Kree-Skrull conflict. Unlike the Skrull's organic and sweeping aesthetic, future iterations of Kree tech were influenced heavily by their military-technocratic government. We embraced rigidity, organization, and simplicity in these designs, while still making use of the Skrull's organic matter as the base for many of their ship's instruments.
